YouTube Partner Program requirements 2023: Updates

Moving forward with the changes implemented this year, the video platform has updated the requirements to apply for the YouTube Partner Program, making it easier to monetize a YouTube channel.

Joining YouTube Partner Program is now easier than ever

This new eligibility change is intended to benefit those creators who focus their content on live streaming, in order to support the diversity of formats within the platform.

YouTube has been adjusting its requirements throughout this year, as in February we witnessed another change to allow monetization on short-form videos known as YouTube Shorts, allowing creators to apply for the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) if their Shorts get 10 million views in 90 days.

If you are thinking about monetizing your YouTube channel, we recommend you to read this article where we explain what YouTube Content ID is, the tool that will help you track any illicit copy of your work.

How to join YouTube Partnership Program

Since short-form video creators can now enjoy the same opportunities to access the YouTube Partner Program and monetize their content, Google’s platform has focused on a third category of creators: those who focus on creating live content.

These types of creators generate revenue through features such as Super Chat and Channel Memberships, so this new update expands access to these features, allowing more new creators to take advantage of them.

New YouTube Partner Program requirements

The new requirements to become a YouTube Partner Program member are as follows:

By meeting these conditions and becoming a member of the YouTube Partner Program, users will unlock new fan monetization features such as channel memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers, Super Thanks and the ability to promote their own products through YouTube Shopping.

However, it is important to remember that creators who meet these new requirements and gain access to YPP will not be able to display ads in their videos until they reach the previous requirements, which are:

Once you fulfill these criteria, you will not need to reapply to the YouTube Partner Program, as it will be automatically updated and allow you to use all the monetization tools.

As you can see, the barrier to be able to monetize your content on YouTube has been reduced considerably, something that gives new creators the opportunity to get an income thanks to their creations.

This new level of YouTube Partner Program access is currently active in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Taiwan and South Korea, with plans to make it available in Colombia in the coming months.

YouTube has also expanded its YouTube Shopping affiliate program for those who are part of the Partner Program and have at least 20,000 subscribersWith this feature, creators will receive a percentage for each sale while users will have easier access to the products they want to purchase.
